In
1895 William G. Morgan, an instructor at the YMCA in Holyoke
Massachusetts in vented volleyball. He blended elements of
bastketball, baseball, tenis, and handball. he created this game for
his classes of buisness men, who demanded less physical contact than
basketball. Volleyball originated in the United States in 1895 as a blend of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball. In 1896 the first official volleyball game was played. The first volleyball game was played at Springfield College. In 1900 a customized ball was made for the sport because it was so popular. The
sport ws named "volleyball", because during the first demonstration of
game someone told william G. Morgan that it looked like the players
were volleying the ball back and forth over the net. He also told
William G. Morgan that "volleyball would be a more descriptive name for
the sport. In 1949 the first World Championship for Volleyball was held in Prague, Czechoslovakia. |
