The sport was named "volleyball", because during the first demonstration of game someone told William G. Morgan that it looked like the players were volleying the ball back and forth over the net. He also told William G. Morgan that "volleyball would be a more descriptive name for the sport.  Volleyball is the second most popular sport in the world today. Volleyball was called Mintonette when it was first invented. The longest recorded volleyball marathon by two teams of six is 75 hours 30 minutes at Kingston, North Carolina in 1980.
